The Decline of the West

Is Western Civilization declining?

At the beginning of the 20th century, the German philosopher Oswald Spengler predicted the forthcoming end of Western civilization. The British historian Arnold Toynbee presented a similar scenario for Western civilization. Michio Kitahara, a native of Japan, has recently published a 900-page trilogy dealing with the fate of Western civilization.

In this trilogy, Kitahara too presents a pessimistic picture of Western civilization. By relying on the latest findings in such diverse fields of knowledge as neurophysiology, psychology, psychoanalysis, anthropology, primatology, sociology, history, political philosophy, and economics, Kitahara discusses a large number of grave problems that Western civilization is faced with.

Among the problems of Western civilization, there is the tragic past of African slavery and its totally unexpected consequences. The Africans in America have been forced to suffer for centuries, and under this most inhumane condition, they created a totally unique culture of their own. But this culture is now undermining the very foundation of Western civilization.
